Pirkkala

Bridge battle shot from a high angle. It was pretty amazing to have almost no snow at this time of the year. However, the ground was icy and slippery. We had to break it in with sticks and stones before the fighting could commence. The second clip is more conventional side angle shot.

Making lamellar armour

We have tried to do some demos in order to get new fighters, or at least to get some money. This is one of them, shot on the courtyard of Häme castle. The fighter in green is Oliver, one of our primus motors here for SCA fighting related stuff. It was pretty funny event, because some cries from the audience have permanently stuck to my memory: "Awful", "Oh my God", "Are they going to kill each other" and the like…

Sig and Junior showing off in their shiny techno armour. At this time Ivan and Rurik had an almost pro armour workshop here, making everything good out of plastic. The body armour seen here is flexible, hi-tech stuff indeed. The armour makers then went to Ireland and took a helpdesk job I've heard. Please come back, we miss you guys.

Hukka fighter practice

Footage from the toughest archery competition in the Known World. Shooting consists of thirty 2-minute rounds, making the total continuous shooting time one hour. Because arrows are retrieved in between the rounds, the whole competition takes usually more than three hours from start to finish. You shoot as many arrows, as fast as you can. The one with most hits wins. The competition is annual. And tough.

Archery championships

One of the most thrilling archery competitions is the Archery Duel. No live targets, though. In this game two archers advance at the same time and shoot when the command is given. The first to hit his target wins. The feeling and situation is similar to battlefield shooting. If you miss, you are lost, and if you shoot too slowly, you are lost as well. Requires excellent shooting technique and good nerves. Or luck.
